Why have I stopped losing weight?

So you have been losing weight and suddenly you are stuck at the same weight and struggle to lose more. There is nothing more frustrating than this and it can be very demotivating. You are asking yourself the question, why has this happened? There are a number of possible reasons for this, some of them are listed here.

1 You slipped away from your diet
So you got off track and maybe had some chocolate or a take away. This is fine as a treat but should be done every day. Set aside a day a week to have a break from your diet. If you do this your more likely to stick to it the rest of the time. If you try to eat healthy all of the time your more likely to slip. If you are struggling to stick with your diet remotivate yourself by thinking how well you have done so far and it will spur you on to carry on with your weight loss.

2 Your portion sizes have changes
You might not realise that its happening but if you dont weigh or measure your food its possible that you could be eating larger portions and therefore your calorie and fat intake will increase as well. if you feel that this is happening then try counting calories.

3 Your having extra food without realising
You may not realise you are doing it but maybe you snack when your cooking or if your eating snacks which are slightly higher in calories than you think. Snacking soon sends up your calorie intake for the day try to stick to very low calorie foods. Try carrying round some carrot or cucumber batons with you in case you get hungry and need a snack as there low in calories and will fill you up and stop you craving sweet snacks. Writing down a food diary is a great way of keeping track of what calories you are consuming. Write down everything which you eat in the day and add up the calories and you will soon see what your calorie intake is and what you can cut out to reduce them.

4 You take the weekend off
Some people think they have eaten well during the week therefore they can stray away from the diet at the weekend. It is still best to try and eat as healthy as you can during the weekend and not to drink too much alcohol. A bottle of wine can have around 700 calories therefore the calories soon creep up as will your weight. A treat is fine but try not to go overboard.

5 You have lost your focus
so you may have lost weight and you just have a few more lbs to lose to reach your goal and maybe you dont feel quite as motivated as you were when you started. Why not set yourself a smaller goal to lose a couple of lbs a month instead of a week then you dont have to be quite as stringent with your dieting but you are still determined to lose some weight and this should therefore help you stay focused on eating healthy and will your body healthy in the process.

6 You’ve reached a plateau
So your eating healthy and exercising but your not losing weight. The best thing to do in these cases is increase the intensity of your exercising this will help speed your matabolism up and help your weight loss get back on track. Sometimes reducing your food intake just isnt enough.
